This post shares I DIY I did for Tootie’s first birthday party, scrapbook paper and yarn pom pom party hats! I just couldn’t resist. They are easy to customize since there are a zillion different scrapbook paper patterns and yarn colors.

Hey guys! I recently shared a post about Tootie’s first birthday party. I’m normally not much of a party planner or entertainer, but we had to do it up for her first birthday! I had fun doing some things that are a bit craftier than my normal DIY projects, including these scrapbook paper and yarn pom pom party hats. Aren’t they adorable?

Sure, I could have bought party hats, but these are a little sassier, and I was able to pick the exact patterns and finished of scrapbook paper I wanted since there are a bunch of options. So here’s how I did it.

Step 1: Print the hat template, cut it out, and trace it on to the back of the scrapbook paper.

Step 2: Roll the hat up to crate the party shape. I added some glue and secured the hat shut with clear tape. If you use a hot glue gun, you can skip the tape.

Step 3: Create the pom poms by wrapping yarn around a few fingers, sliding it off, tying a tight loop of twine around the center, and then cutting the looped ends.

Step 4: Once you’ve cut the loops open, the pom poms won’t look super right away. Some of the yarn will be uneven, so you’ll need to trim up the pom poms like you would a shrub.

Step 5: I made my pom poms a few different sizes. Then I threaded the ends of the twine down into each party hat top and added glue.

After using a small needle to make two holes and adding elastic, they were done! Aren’t they adorable?
